Incident Overview
Two aircraft were taxiing simultaneously in opposite directions on a single parallel taxiway. Aircraft N5500C was eastbound, preparing for takeoff, while aircraft N69113 was westbound after landing on runway 27 and turning onto the taxiway.
Pilot Statements
The pilot of N5500C stated that they taxied from the parking ramp and, prior to entering the taxiway, did not see any other aircraft on the taxiway. The pilot also did not recall seeing an airplane on final approach to the runway while taxiing. Additionally, the pilot heard a transmission on UNICOM but did not understand the words.
Witness Account
A ground witness reported hearing three calls from N69113 on UNICOM, requesting that N5500C stop.
Damage and Taxiway Conditions
Both aircraft sustained substantial damage. Both pilots indicated that the taxiway was too narrow for the aircraft to pass each other. The pilot of N69113 stated that they declined to taxi off the taxiway due to fear of a propeller strike on the taxiway edge, citing a dropoff.
