Incident Overview
A pilot reported that approximately 15 minutes after takeoff, the radio and navigation equipment ceased to function. The pilot decided to return to the airport for landing. However, when attempting to extend the landing gear, a safe gear-down indication could not be obtained.
Actions During Approach
Due to heavy traffic, the pilot departed the traffic pattern to extend the gear. Following the instructions in the aircraft handbook, the landing gear was extended. As soon as the gear was extended, the engine lost power. The pilot attempted to glide the aircraft to a large field but was unable to reach it. A smaller field was selected, and the pilot tried to make a short field approach, but the flaps would not extend.
Collision and Post-Event Examination
The aircraft collided with a fence and a few small trees. During an examination of the aircraft, all electrical components operated normally, and fuel was found in the fuel tanks. The engine was then started and operated normally.
Examination Findings
Subsequent testing of the aircraft systems revealed no anomalies. All electrical components functioned as intended, and the engine ran without issues. The reason for the loss of engine power after gear extension could not be determined from the examination.
