Overview
During a touch-and-go landing in a training aircraft, the student pilot failed to raise the flaps after touchdown. The flight instructor intervened verbally and manually, but a prop strike occurred. The takeoff was rejected due to severe vibration.
Detailed Account
The student pilot was executing a touch-and-go procedure. After landing, the airplane was configured for takeoff, but the flaps remained extended. As the student advanced the throttle for takeoff, the instructor shouted to the student about the flaps and simultaneously reached for the flap control with his right hand placed under the control wheel. Concurrently, the left propeller struck the runway surface as a climb was initiated at the blue line speed. At that instant, the instructor observed that the landing gear indicator showed an in-transit light. A pronounced vibration was felt, leading the instructor to abort the takeoff.
Damage Assessment
Following the rejected takeoff, it was found that the propellers were damaged and the underside of the fuselage bore scrape marks.
