Accident Details
Shortly after touchdown during a crosswind landing, a tailwheel-equipped aircraft began to weathervane to the left into the wind. The pilot lost directional control, and the aircraft ground looped to the left. The right main landing gear collapsed, and the right wing contacted and dragged along the ground.
Pilot Information
The pilot reported having approximately 3,500 hours of flight experience in a Piper PA-18, which is also a tailwheel-equipped aircraft. However, he had recently purchased the accident aircraft, a Maule M-6-235, and had accumulated only 20 hours of total flight time in that specific make and model.
