Incident Description
According to the pilot's report on FAA Form 6120.1, the aircraft was on step during takeoff when it began an uncommanded roll to the right. Despite applying aileron control inputs to correct the roll, the right wing struck the water on two separate occasions. The pilot then applied rudder and reduced power, which brought the aircraft back under control.
Pilot Actions
After regaining control, the pilot considered aborting the takeoff but decided against it. Instead, the aircraft was water taxied for approximately 35 miles to Ketchikan. The pilot did not report any further difficulties during the water taxi.
Post-Accident Inspection
A mechanic who inspected the aircraft after the accident reported that no obvious malfunction could be identified. The cause of the right roll during takeoff was not determined from the inspection.
