Accident Sequence
The accident occurred during an agricultural spraying operation. The pilot had just completed a swath run and commenced a turn-around maneuver while flying downwind. As the aircraft turned, one of its wings dropped. This led to a descent and a nose-first impact with the ground. After the initial collision, the aircraft bounced and slid for 53 feet before coming to a halt. Immediately, the aircraft erupted in flames, fueled by a ruptured fuel tank. Strong winds directed the fire away from the cockpit, preventing it from fully engulfing the pilot's position.
Rescue and Injuries
The operator, serving as a flagman, rushed to the scene and extracted the pilot from the burning wreckage. He then transported the pilot to a medical facility. At the hospital, the pilot was found to have sustained serious impact injuries. Additionally, medical staff treated the pilot for parathion poisoning, a toxic agricultural chemical.
