Incident Overview
During an approach, the pilot accepted a runway change late in the procedure. This change necessitated a steep turn and a rapid descent. At approximately 400 feet above ground level (AGL), the pilot advanced both throttles, but neither engine responded. The aircraft subsequently landed in unimproved terrain short of the runway, resulting in the collapse of the left main landing gear.
Post-Incident Examination
Following the event, an examination was conducted on the aircraft. The inspection revealed no discrepancies in either the engines or the fuel system. Both engines were subsequently tested and ran satisfactorily. The pilot reported no mechanical malfunctions prior to or during the incident.
Findings
The pilot's account indicates that the non-response of the engines occurred at a critical phase of flight after the late runway change. However, despite the lack of engine response, post-incidence testing confirmed the engines operated normally, and no mechanical issues were identified.
