Flight Details
According to the pilot's report, while leveling off at 3,000 feet MSL, the auxiliary fuel boost switch was still in the 'on' position. The pilot moved the switch to the 'off' position. Immediately, the engine began to run with some vibration, so the pilot returned the switch to 'on' and left it there for the remainder of the flight. The en route portion proceeded without further incident.
Engine Anomaly
During the descent through 2,300 feet, while operating in instrument meteorological conditions (IFR) near the destination, the engine stopped running. The pilot attempted to restart the engine but was unsuccessful.
Emergency Landing
The pilot reported that the aircraft broke out of the overcast at a low altitude. Seeing a suitable field, the pilot landed. The aircraft received minor damage during the landing.
Post-Accident Inspection
Following the event, the engine was run up and operated normally. However, no reason for the loss of engine power was identified.
