Incident Details
The pilot reported experiencing a loss of power during the takeoff roll. Despite this, he elected to continue the takeoff rather than abort. After becoming airborne, he successfully cleared some wires but subsequently judged that he could not clear nearby trees. He then executed a forced landing in a corn field.
Aircraft Inspection
Post-incident inspection of the aircraft revealed several discrepancies. The cotter pin securing the fuel control rod was separated. The fuel valve was found in a position approximately halfway between on and off. Additionally, one of the spark plug wires was loose.
Fuel Issue
The aircraft had been serviced with automotive fuel, for which no approved Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) was held.
