Flight and Weather Conditions
The flight departed Binghamton, New York, under visual flight rules (VFR). The destination weather was reported as clear until just before the estimated time of arrival, when fog began to form. Witnesses who heard the aircraft shortly before the accident reported heavy fog.
Accident Sequence
After making an approach to runway 7, the aircraft turned to a heading of approximately 220 degrees. It then collided with trees on a wooded hill located 0.85 miles north of the airport.
Wreckage and Terrain
The main wreckage was found at an elevation of 1,395 feet. The airport elevation is 1,027 feet. Examination of the wreckage revealed no preimpact part failure or malfunction.
