Accident Overview
An aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff when the engine lost power during the initial climb. The accident occurred on Runway 4, with witnesses observing the aircraft climb to approximately 200 feet above ground level. The engine was heard sputtering but still running before the aircraft entered a 90-degree bank to the left and began to descend. No further engine sounds were heard during the banking maneuver.
Witness Observations
Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft depart from Runway 4. After climbing to about 200 feet AGL, the engine sound changed to a sputtering noise, though it remained running. The aircraft then banked sharply left and started descending. The engine sound ceased during the bank. The aircraft descended behind trees, followed by a loud crash and billowing smoke.
Pilot and Investigation
The pilot was pronounced deceased by the Florida District 15 Medical Examiner due to impact forces. Investigators found no mechanical reasons for the engine sputtering. The cockpit instrumentation and engine controls were destroyed by fire, precluding their use in determining the cause of the accident.
