Overview
A midair collision occurred between a Cessna 152 and a Beech B35 near Brookfield Airport. Both aircraft were substantially damaged but continued flying and were landed without further incident.
Aircraft
The Cessna 152, registration N6464L, was flown by a student pilot on his first solo cross-country flight. The Beech B35 (Bonanza), registration N5182C, was piloted by a commercially rated pilot.
Collision
The student pilot had taken off from Brookfield Airport (elevation 850 feet) and climbed to 2,000 feet MSL, heading 350 degrees. He observed the Beech B35 converging from his right and took evasive action. However, the propeller and right wing tip of the Beech struck the right horizontal stabilizer, right wing root, and right flap of the Cessna. The pilot of the Beech, who was cruising westbound at 2,000 feet MSL, did not see the Cessna until after the collision.
Aftermath
Despite the substantial damage, both pilots maintained control of their aircraft. The Cessna and Beech continued flying and were landed without further incident. No injuries were reported in the source.
