Overview
An aircraft made a wheel landing on runway 3 under conditions of a 10-knot wind from 210 degrees. The pilot had been informed by a person answering the UNICOM that runway 3 was the active runway and that the wind was 10 knots.
Landing and Collision
During the landing roll, when the tailwheel contacted the runway, the aircraft was blown toward the left. After veering left, the aircraft collided with a tied-down glider. The collision caused the aircraft to continue into a ditch approximately 4 feet deep.
Environmental Conditions
Several individuals present at the airport reported that there were dust devils on or near the airport at the time of the accident. The wind conditions, as reported, were from 210 degrees at 10 knots, which produced a crosswind component for runway 3.
