Accident Sequence
Before beginning the takeoff, the pilot checked the trim and the autopilot. During the takeoff roll, he noted that the aircraft felt heavy on rotation and subsequently aborted the takeoff. Despite the abort, the aircraft continued off the end of the runway and struck a mound of dirt, resulting in damage.
Post-Accident Examination
A post-accident examination revealed that both the autopilot and the electrical trim were engaged at the time of the accident. Additionally, the elevator trim was found to be in the full nose-down trim position. According to the operator's manual, the autopilot should have been in the off position for takeoff.
Runway Length
The pilot had 3,800 feet of runway remaining from the point where he began his takeoff roll. Not all of the runway was available for the takeoff.
