Event Summary
During a photographic flight, the pilot reported a loss of engine power. The pilot subsequently performed an autorotation, landing the aircraft in the water. The aircraft was later recovered and returned to its home base.
Post-Recovery Actions
Following recovery, the fuel system was drained and purged of all fluids. The magnetos were cleaned and reinstalled, and new fuel was added. The engine was then started and operated normally.
Investigation Findings
Due to the aircraft being submerged in ocean waters, investigators could not determine the nature of the engine malfunction as described by the pilot. No specific failure mode could be identified.
