Accident Overview
On December 4, 1985, at 2230 Pacific Standard Time, a Beech F33A operated by its owner collided with trees during a missed approach at Sacramento Metropolitan Airport in Sacramento, California. The flight, conducted under instrument flight rules, originated in Riverside, California, with the exact departure time unknown.
Flight and Sequence of Events
Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed at the time, and an instrument clearance had been issued. According to Sacramento Metropolitan Tower personnel, the instrument-rated private pilot requested an instrument approach and had received clearance to land when he disappeared from radar contact approximately one-quarter mile north of Runway 16 at an altitude of 100 feet above ground level.
Wreckage and Occupant
The wreckage was subsequently located approximately 1.5 miles west of the airport, where it had crashed and burned. The aircraft was destroyed. The pilot, the only occupant, received fatal injuries.
