Accident Sequence
Shortly after beginning descent from 7,500 feet mean sea level, the aircraft experienced a total loss of power. Prior to the descent, the pilot had enriched the mixture and applied carburetor heat. The pilot then radioed their position and situation to Deer Valley Tower in Deer Valley, Arizona, while negotiating an emergency landing. Prior to touchdown, the aircraft collided with some cactus bushes.
Accident Location
The accident site is located about 14 miles northwest of Deer Valley Airport.
Post-Accident Examination
The post-accident examination of the wreckage disclosed that the carburetor bowl contained about 1 and 1/2 cups of water.
