Incident Overview
During cruise flight in the pilot's own aircraft, an engine oil leak developed. The oil pressure decreased, and engine power was subsequently lost. The pilot attempted an emergency landing on a city street. On approach, the aircraft collided with power lines and a fence. After the collision, the aircraft came to rest upside down.
Examination Findings
Examination of the partially oil-covered engine revealed that an oil flex hose leading to the oil cooler had been previously wrapped with a metallic-like tape. The hose, which was covered in oil, had a brittle and crumbly appearing core.
