Incident Overview
A student pilot was flying as part of a flight of three aircraft returning from a lunch trip to a nearby airport. The first pilot in the flight had executed a go-around after bouncing during touchdown on the downhill airstrip, which measured 1830 feet in length and 30 feet in width. That pilot subsequently completed a successful landing.
Observations on Final Approach
Both the first and third pilots observed the student pilot's aircraft on short final. They reported seeing the aircraft pull up with the nose high and the left wing low. The aircraft then descended to the left and came to rest in the bedroom of a nearby residence.
Post-Accident Engine Test
Approximately one week after the accident, the engine was successfully run up while still attached to the airframe at a nearby facility.
Pilot's Account
The student pilot stated that a sudden gust of wind prevented him from aligning the aircraft for landing while on short final, and that he subsequently attempted to perform a go-around.
