What happened
The pilot attempted to rotate the aircraft for takeoff on two separate occasions before it finally lifted off. The aircraft became airborne at approximately 800 feet down the runway. The investigation
Prior to the flight, a witness observed two heavy-set individuals, each weighing approximately 250 pounds, entering the aircraft. An analysis of the aircraft's weight configuration revealed significant discrepancies with its operational limits. The empty weight of the aircraft was recorded at 800 pounds, and the combined weight of the fuel and oil was approximately 108 pounds. The gross weight limit for the aircraft is 1220 pounds.
Findings
The total weight of the aircraft at takeoff was calculated to be approximately 1,408 pounds. This figure placed the aircraft 188 pounds over its maximum gross weight limit. The excessive weight contributed to the aircraft's inability to climb effectively after liftoff. The pilot failed to maintain control during the initial climb phase, leading to a stall at low altitude.
