Accident Details
The pilot of an airplane reported making three attempts to land on a short narrow runway in windy conditions. After the first attempt, he changed runways based on a UNICOM announcement that the wind favored Runway 3. On the final approach, the pilot landed approximately one-third to one-half of the way down the 1,550-foot runway.
During the landing roll, the right wheel dropped off the pavement. After guiding the right wheel back onto the hard surface, insufficient runway remained to stop the aircraft. Rather than rolling off the runway and down an embankment, the pilot ground looped the airplane, which resulted in the collapse of the right main landing gear.
