Incident Summary
A pilot was flying a pattern around a field where he intended to land later. During a low pass, he applied power for a go-around. However, full power was not sufficient to prevent the aircraft from touching down. Upon touchdown, a side load caused the landing gear to collapse.
Flight Conditions
The field had an elevation of 1,649 feet above sea level. The density altitude at the time was 3,700 feet. The pilot applied full power during the go-around attempt, but the aircraft still made contact with the ground.
Post-Impact Examination
The pilot, who is also a mechanic, conducted a post-impact examination of the engine. He was unable to determine any engine problems that might have contributed to the insufficient power. The examination did not identify any mechanical issues.
