Incident Description
During a local cross-country pleasure flight, the pilot attempted to land on Lake Folsom. Upon touchdown, the aircraft began settling in the water. It then nosed over and sank.
Pilot and Witness Accounts
The pilot stated that he felt there was an object in the water that was struck. Witnesses, however, reported a different sequence of events. According to them, the aircraft touched down once briefly, pulled up, and then on the second touchdown it nosed over. One witness also noted that the aircraft was landed with a quartering tailwind.
Wind Conditions
Approximately 12 miles northeast of the accident site, the wind at Sacramento was recorded from 310 degrees at 16 knots.
