Incident Details
According to the pilot, he and his wife planned to fly together, but at the last minute she changed her mind and exited the aircraft, departing to the rear of the plane. The pilot began taxiing from his parking spot when his wife suddenly appeared on the left side of the aircraft. He stopped the aircraft, but his wife continued forward and walked into the propeller.
Injuries and Response
The propeller struck the right side of her body, severing the right arm, lacerating the right chest cavity, and lacerating the inner portion of the right thigh. An EMS helicopter located at the airport was called and arrived seven minutes later. Medical crew members administered additional first aid and applied a tourniquet. The victim was evacuated 20 minutes after the accident. The pilot later stated that his wife was returning to the aircraft to retrieve her purse.
