Incident Description
According to the pilot, the aircraft was on the base leg of the approach with flaps lowered to two-thirds when it unexpectedly entered an uncontrolled left bank. The pilot reported that control was partially regained, but the aircraft subsequently entered a spin to the left. Despite efforts, control could not be reestablished before the aircraft crashed into the ocean.
The aircraft came to rest in approximately 23 feet of water. It has not been recovered.
Investigation Findings
As the aircraft remains unrecovered, investigators were unable to conduct a detailed examination. Consequently, no determination could be made regarding the reason for the loss of control described by the pilot. The investigation has been unable to identify any specific mechanical or operational factors that contributed to the event.
