Incident Overview
A Great Lakes 2T-1A-2 nosed over during the landing roll at an airport. The pilot had contacted the airport on the UNICOM frequency and was advised that winds favored Runway 30. On short final approach to Runway 30, the pilot observed a windsock located at the intersection of Runways 30 and 21. The windsock indicated winds from 210 degrees at approximately 10 knots.
Sequence of Events
After touchdown, the pilot reported that a wind gust or "twister" struck the aircraft, throwing the tail to the right and causing the airplane to veer left. The pilot then applied right rudder, which resulted in the aircraft turning right. During this maneuver, the left main landing gear collapsed, allowing the left wing to make contact with the ground. The aircraft subsequently flipped over.
