Incident Description
An aircraft suffered a loss of engine power while conducting an aerial application maneuver. The pilot responded by initiating an emergency landing procedure. As the aircraft touched down, the left wing impacted tall vegetation growing on the edge of a road. The impact caused the aircraft to deviate leftward into a drainage ditch, where it flipped over and came to rest inverted.
Investigation Findings
Following the accident, an investigation was carried out. Examination of the engine revealed that the No. 7 cylinder had a crack in its dome that existed prior to the incident. Moreover, testing of the fuel discovered contamination with water. The amount of water present was sufficient to reduce the engine's capacity to develop full power.
