Event Description
The pilot, after approximately one hour of flight to check aircraft radios, decided to return to the airport. On short final approach, the pilot elected to perform a go-around. Midway down Runway 26, the pilot pushed in carburetor heat, added full throttle, and decreased the flaps.
Loss of Control and Collision
With the wind from the south, the pilot stated that the aircraft began to veer to the left and continued to sink. The pilot then removed another notch of flaps but realized the aircraft could not clear the tall trees ahead. The aircraft banked left and collided with pine trees.
Post-Accident Engine Test
Five days after the accident, the engine was successfully run up, indicating no pre-impact mechanical failure.
