Incident Overview
A student pilot, operating a rented aircraft, departed from the original airport and flew to a field approximately 40 miles away, exceeding the 25-mile limit for which he had approval. After landing at the field, a passenger boarded the aircraft. The student then initiated a takeoff.
Takeoff and Collision
During the takeoff roll, the aircraft lifted off but failed to gain sufficient altitude to clear trees at the departure end of the runway. The aircraft subsequently flew into the trees, resulting in substantial damage. The pilot reported that he believed the engine was at full power throughout the takeoff.

The pilot stated that the wind was variable, ranging from 10 to 15 knots. He also indicated that he thought the wind may have shifted during the takeoff, potentially affecting the aircraft's performance.
