A pilot and two passengers were participating in the Denver, Colorado to Jackpot, Nevada Air Classic. The aircraft departed and was destined for Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Flight Details
According to a friend, the pilot was believed to be navigating using a recently installed RNAV system. During the flight, the pilot radioed a friend also participating in the classic, reporting that he had encountered heavy rain in the Hayden area.
Witness Observations
Witnesses stated that the high terrain in the area was obscured by clouds.
Investigation Findings
Investigators found no evidence of pre-impact mechanical malfunction of the aircraft.
