Event
The pilot of an aircraft aborted the approach to Runway 21 at Canyon Lands Airport after experiencing indications of a crosswind. The pilot then radioed Moab UNICOM, stating that the windsock could not be located, and requested wind information. Moab UNICOM reported that the wind was straight down the runway.
Landing and Runway Excursion
During the subsequent landing roll, the aircraft encountered a strong crosswind gust. As a result, the aircraft swerved to the left and departed the runway. After leaving the runway surface, the aircraft continued down a steep grade and subsequently nosed over.
