What happened
The pilot reported that after the aircraft touched down on the water and was in the process of rolling out, she engaged the carburetor heat lever. While performing this action, she leaned forward to raise the flaps. At approximately that moment, the floatplane began to swerve. The pilot attempted to regain control of the aircraft; however, the left wing struck the water. The impact caused the nose to pitch down and the aircraft to roll over.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the operational sequence reported by the pilot during the critical phase of the landing rollout. Examination of the event revealed that the loss of directional control coincided with the pilot's physical movement to adjust flight controls while managing engine power settings.
Findings
The primary factor contributing to the accident was the pilot's inability to maintain directional control during the water landing rollout. The sequence of events indicates that the combination of swerving and the subsequent left wing contact with the water led to the rollover. No mechanical failures were reported prior to the loss of control.
