Pilot Report
The pilot reported that prior to reaching the destination, he received an advisory on the UNICOM frequency that Runway 19 was in use and there was a direct crosswind. During the arrival, he attempted to contact UNICOM again for a weather update but was unable to establish communication. He elected to land on Runway 19.
Landing Details
According to the report, the aircraft touched down approximately 500 to 600 feet down the 3,400-foot runway. The pilot applied brakes but was unable to stop on the remaining runway. He intentionally ground looped the aircraft. The left main landing gear collapsed when the plane skidded off the runway.
Aftermath
After exiting the aircraft, the pilot noted a small windsock at the approach end of the runway that was indicating a direct tailwind. Before landing, he had estimated the wind was from 270 to 280 degrees at 15 to 20 knots. No mechanical problems were reported.
