Introduction
A personal flight experienced a landing gear malfunction during approach, resulting in a runway excursion and collision with trees. The incident occurred when the left main landing gear failed to extend after the pilot lowered the gear for landing.
Sequence of Events
According to the investigation, the pilot was on a personal flight and lowered the landing gear in preparation for landing. However, the left main landing gear did not extend. Despite this, the pilot continued the approach. Upon touchdown, the aircraft veered off the runway, collided with trees, and came to rest.
Findings
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) personnel noted that the left main landing gear did not extend, possibly due to a frozen uplock roller. As a result, when the pilot lowered the landing gear, the push-pull rod failed. Beech Aircraft personnel indicated that the push-pull rod could fail if the uplock roller failed. Additionally, the aircraft owner reported that the aircraft and engine logbooks could not be located.
