Accident Sequence
Following touchdown on the landing strip, the airplane's left main landing gear collapsed. The aircraft subsequently departed the left side of the strip and entered a water-filled pit. During the excursion, it struck a pump station and associated equipment.
Pilot Statement
After the accident, the pilot informed his son that he had been feeling unwell during the flight. He also stated that the electrical equipment had not been functioning properly. Specifically, he reported being unable to obtain a down-and-locked indication for the landing gear. Despite this, he did not utilize the emergency extension system.
Post-Accident Findings
During the subsequent investigation, it was discovered that the ignition switch was not operating correctly. Additionally, an interconnection existed between the ignition switch and the battery switch. The battery would not become operational after the battery switch was turned on until the ignition switch was 'wiggled'.
