Accident Sequence
The accident occurred during the initial climb after takeoff. At approximately 100 feet above ground level, the pilot announced that an engine had been lost. The aircraft burst into flames and was destroyed by the post-impact fire.
Investigation Findings
Examination of the wreckage revealed evidence of a loss of power from the right engine. The propeller of that engine was found in the high RPM setting. Detailed inspection of the right engine's fuel injection pump disclosed an internal seizure of the pump mechanism. The fuel injection pump had been installed on the engine the day before the accident and had recently undergone overhaul.
