Incident Details
A pilot was conducting a personal flight to a private, uncharted airstrip located on a coastal island. As the flight approached its destination, the pilot cancelled the Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flight plan with Flight Service Station (FSS).
Pilot Account
The pilot reported that he approached the soft, 2,500-foot-long strip at an excessive altitude and ballooned during touchdown. The airplane touched down beyond the intended landing point. Believing that he could not stop before reaching a creek at the end of the runway, the pilot elected to initiate a takeoff again. He applied full power, but the airplane failed to completely clear bushes located at the runway's end.
Sequence of Events
After contacting the bushes, the airplane lost altitude and subsequently touched down in a marsh situated beyond the creek. The incident concluded with the airplane coming to rest in the marsh.
