After reducing power to land, the aircraft experienced a total power loss and landed short of the runway, striking a ditch. The right main and nose landing gear collapsed. Incident
During the landing phase, the pilot reduced power to land on the runway. At that point, a total loss of power occurred. The aircraft subsequently landed short of the runway. During the landing roll, the aircraft struck a ditch, causing the collapse of the right main landing gear and the nose landing gear.
Post-Inspection Findings
An inspection of the aircraft was conducted. Examination revealed approximately 2 2/3 gallons of fuel remaining in the left wing fuel tank. No fuel was found in the right main fuel tank. The aircraft had been stationary on the ground for two days prior to the examination. Additionally, a fuel line was found to be ruptured. The spark plugs exhibited signs of a very lean mixture having been used. No mechanical reason for the powerplant failure was identified.
