Incident Overview
Both aircraft were operating in the traffic pattern. The Cessna 152 made radio calls in the blind, while the Cessna 310 did not make any radio transmissions. Both airplanes were on final approach simultaneously, with the Cessna 152 in the lead and the Cessna 310 at a lower altitude.
Sequence of Events
As the aircraft approached the runway, the Cessna 310 passed the Cessna 152 just before touchdown. At the time, the Cessna 310 was on the ground while the Cessna 152 was rounding out directly behind it. The pilots of the Cessna 152 then observed the Cessna 310 ahead, applied full power, and executed a pull-up maneuver.
Collision and Aftermath
During the pull-up, the left horizontal stabilizer of the Cessna 152 struck the vertical stabilizer of the Cessna 310. Following the collision, the Cessna 310 came to a stop on the runway. The Cessna 152 subsequently landed in front of the Cessna 310 on the same runway.
