Incident Details
During preparation for a lake landing, the pilot was maneuvering within a confined area bordered by trees and situated above a small cove. While in this location, the pilot lost control of the aircraft. The aircraft then struck trees during flight while in an unusual attitude, after which it impacted the water.

At the time of the accident, heavy rain was falling, leading to poor visibility.
Pilot Background
The pilot was authorized to conduct only visual flight rules (VFR) air taxi operations. He had no recent recorded instrument flight time or experience.
