Incident Overview
Witnesses reported that the wind was gusty and there were whitecaps on the lake when the aircraft attempted to take off. According to the pilot, after the aircraft had climbed to a sufficient altitude, he began a left turn to climb over the lake.
Sequence of Events
Once the turn was initiated, the aircraft began to descend despite the application of full power and full up elevator. Additionally, the left wing continued to dip despite the pilot applying full right stick. The left wing subsequently struck the water, and the aircraft nosed over.
Pilot Statement
The pilot stated that after reaching sufficient altitude, the left turn was started to climb over the lake. During the turn, the aircraft descended and the left wing dipped, leading to the water impact.
