Incident Overview
Shortly after crossing the runway threshold on final approach, the pilot encountered a wind shift and decided to attempt a go-around. The go-around was discontinued when the pilot judged that the aircraft would not be able to clear trees located at the departure end of the runway.
Forced Landing and Runway Excursion
The pilot proceeded to "force" a landing with approximately 100 yards of runway remaining. The aircraft was unable to stop before running off the departure end of the runway. It continued across a road and onto the grassy overrun.
Collision and Final Position
While on the overrun, the left main landing gear struck a small ditch. The aircraft veered to the left, causing the nose gear to collapse. The aircraft came to a stop in some brush at the edge of the trees.
