Event Description
A pilot was attempting to land at an unfamiliar airport with a narrow runway measuring 25 feet in width, bordered by trees on both sides. On short final approach, after crossing over trees that served as approach obstacles with full flaps extended, the pilot observed the aircraft drifting toward the right boundary trees.
Pilot Actions
The pilot did not determine the wind other than its general direction. The crosswind was four knots. To correct the drift, the pilot yawed the nose slightly to the left. According to the pilot's manual, the wing-down crosswind correction method provides the best control. Just before touchdown, the pilot decided to execute a go-around. During the go-around, the right wing struck the trees on the right side of the runway.
Aircraft Configuration and Passengers
The aircraft was configured with full flaps extended at the time of the drift. The pilot reported that two of the five passengers on board were children.
