Event Description
Shortly after takeoff and climbing to approximately 150 feet above ground level (AGL), the pilot reported that the engine began sputtering and losing power. Despite attempts to rectify the situation by pumping the throttle and working the engine primer, the corrective measures did not resolve the issue. Shortly thereafter, the engine lost all remaining power.
Emergency Landing
An emergency landing was attempted in a soft field. During the landing, the aircraft nosed over, resulting in substantial damage to the airframe.
Investigation Findings
A post-accident investigation was conducted. Examination of the engine components revealed no malfunction or failure. Additionally, no evidence of fuel shortage or contamination was found. Meteorological conditions at the time were assessed using the 'Icing Probability Charts', which indicated that conditions were conducive to the probability of carburetor icing.
