What happened
The aircraft was operating near Speculator, New York, when it ultimately collided with trees located approximately 20 miles north of the town. The wreckage was subsequently demolished upon impact.
At the time of departure, weather conditions were reported as clear skies. However, as the flight approached its intended destination, the weather began to deteriorate significantly. In response to these changing conditions, the pilot decided to divert the flight to Glens Falls, New York.
During the descent toward this alternate airport, the aircraft was operating in darkness. It is during this phase of the flight that the collision with the trees occurred.
