Incident
Approximately four minutes after takeoff, the engine of an airplane ceased operation. During the subsequent forced landing, the aircraft struck the tops of trees before impacting the ground.
Pilot's Account
The pilot reported that prior to the flight, he had stopped at two airports where he was unable to obtain fuel. He stated that he observed sufficient fuel in the tank to operate the engine for 45 minutes to one hour. Additionally, the fuel gauge indicated 12 to 13 gallons before takeoff.
Post-Accident Engine Test
Following the accident, the engine was removed from the airframe and installed in another aircraft. When tested, the engine started and ran normally, with no anomalies reported.
