Accident Overview

After completing a local photographic flight, the pilot of a helicopter conducted an approach to a hover landing near the approach end of Runway 17. Following clearance to cross the runway and proceed to the intended parking area, the pilot initiated forward movement and began a climb. During this maneuver, the pilot perceived a partial power loss and immediately commenced a hovering autorotation.

Sequence of Events

The helicopter touched down with forward speed, slid to a stop, and then rocked backward and to the left. The dynamic impact resulted in damage to both the main rotor blades and the tail rotor blades.
