What happened
During the initial phase of a takeoff roll on a southbound runway, the pilot encountered a left crosswind component estimated between 5 and 10 knots. The aircraft became airborne earlier than intended for the specific conditions. A witness observed that the lift-off was abrupt and noted that the altitude never exceeded 6 to 8 feet above the ground surface.
As the aircraft drifted toward the right side of the runway, the pilot retracted the landing gear.
