What happened
The pilot reported that the engine began operating roughly while the aircraft was in flight. Due to the mechanical irregularity, he decided to execute an emergency landing in a nearby field. During the landing roll across the uneven terrain, the airplane struck a dirt mound. The impact caused the aircraft to pitch forward and come to rest on its nose.
The investigation
