Aircraft Handling
According to the pilot's report, the approach and initial touchdown were routine and stable. The pilot had made sufficient adjustments to compensate for the gusting crosswind conditions.
Sequence of Events
As the nosewheel contacted the runway, a strong gust struck the aircraft, causing it to become airborne again. The aircraft then impacted the runway with a hard bounce, during which the nose landing gear separated. The aircraft slid to a halt, with the nose lowered, on the left side of the runway.
Circumstances
The pilot noted that ongoing construction activities at the airport prevented the use of a runway that was better oriented to the wind direction. The crosswind conditions were described as gusty throughout the landing.
